Industrial Design Process

Design Research | User Studies

Understanding who the User is and how they interact with the product is a critical part of design development.

Conduct Market Research to map the competitive landscape and identify trends in the product category.  Create Mood Boards to align with Client on concept direction.

Sketch Ideation

Cisco sketches 1

Concept sketches to develop a Visual Brand Language, the family product line aesthetic that represents the Company’s product Brand Identity and differentiates it from competitors.  Incorporate User Experience Research to improve on and innovate functionality.  Partner with Engineering Team to establish the internal component layout while ensuring manufacturability, determine part count and improve ease of assembly.

Concept Refinement | CMF (Colors, Materials, Finishes)

Create Mood Boards for CMF.  Explore CMF on multiple concept design directions that align with the Client’s VBL.

3D Mockups | User Testing

Full scale mockups in foam, foamcore and other materials to simulate the actual product and a tool for User Testing to evaluate ergonomic usability.  Frequently used in conjunction with Digital User Interface prototypes to test both physical and digital interactions.

3D CAD | Photoreal Renderings and Animations

Once the design concept is finalized, 3D CAD is the next step to full scale realization of the product, including a complete assembly of all internal and external components.  Photoreal 3D CAD renderings and animations are useful tools for Tradeshows, Buyers and Investor presentations prior to product launch.

3D Printing and CNC Prototypes

In-house DLP Resin and FDM Plastic 3D printing capability in hard and soft materials.  In-house CNC capability as well as full Prototyping shop services.

CAD for Assembly and Manufacturing

Injection mold tooling ready 3D CAD, Liasion with Vendor, Part inspection/refinement to production approved parts, including traveling overseas to Vendor factories for QC.
